At Johnson County Friends Feeding Friends, we are always grateful for the incredible support we receive from our community. Recently, we were fortunate to have the JCSD#1 Transportation Department volunteer their time and skills, and we couldn’t be more thankful!
Breean Waller, our Program Coordinator, was beyond grateful to receive their help, especially during such a busy time. With the summer food van project wrapping up and preparations for the new school year underway, Breean had a long list of tasks that needed attention. One of the biggest challenges was finding someone to clean and winterize the food van—a crucial task that had been weighing on her mind.
When Bill McKenzie from the transportation department offered to have his crew take care of the food van, Breean felt an overwhelming sense of relief. “There are so many times in this job that I’ve needed a task done, and before I even reach out to find help, I’ll get a phone call offering assistance. And the skill set of the volunteer perfectly matches the task I need accomplished. I am in shock and awe every time that happens,” Breean shared.
But their help didn’t stop there. The volunteers also pitched in to harvest, clean, and reset our new hydroponics system, which we used to grow fresh lettuce for our summer lunches. Additionally, they sorted and organized books for our new book program, sanitized delivery tubs, and packed weekend food bags for the first week of school. Their dedication and enthusiasm were evident in every task they tackled, and they were such a fun crew to work with!
We want to extend our deepest thanks to all the bus drivers and staff who volunteered. Your willingness to step up and support Johnson County kids and our community is truly appreciated. Your efforts make a significant difference in the lives of so many, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
Thank you, JCSD#1 Transportation Department, for being such a wonderful part of our community and for your continued support of Friends Feeding Friends!
