Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Mini Food Pantry Project was a success.

Johnson County Friends Feeding Friends and Bread of Life Food Pantry joined forces to help fight hunger in Johnson County by creating the Mini Food Pantry Project.

A lot of collaboration went into this project.  We are grateful to the Buffalo Bulletin for donating their old newspaper boxes, to be used as our mini pantries.  We would like to to thank the Buffalo High School Create Club, Kira Wages, and Kelsey McDonnell for coming up with the time, garage space and the creative ideas to paint the boxes for us. We would also like to thank Steve Bennett for donating all of the painting supplies.  We really love how the boxes turned out!

The kickstart happened this Friday, where board members and staff from both entities delivered the recycled newspaper boxes to their locations around town.  Each mini pantry was filled with non-perishable foods, and a ribbon cutting ceremony took place at Compass Center for Families celebrating this new service to our community.

For the first month or two the mini pantries will be taken care of and maintained by the  Bread of Life Food Pantry and Friends Feeding Friends staff, but soon they will be looking for volunteers to “Adopt a Mini Pantry”.  The adopters will be asked to check the boxes weekly, keep them well stocked, and to help maintain them.

Our wish was for any person in need to have access to food.  We realize for some people without vehicles, getting to the grocery stores and food bank isn’t always an  option.  We strategically placed mini pantries through out town, hoping to help in that way.  These mini pantries are anonymous, and easily accessible to anyone in need.
