Today, we want to shine a light on two of our invaluable partners—The Powder River Energy Foundation and Basin Electric Company—for their unwavering support of the Johnson County Friends Feeding Friends, Bread Project.
Every week, over 130 weekend food bags are filled with essential items to sustain Johnson County children facing food insecurity. Among these life-sustaining items is a bread product, a simple yet crucial component that amplifies the potential of every meal these children consume. Thanks to our friends at PRECorp and Basin Electric, a bread product is now part of weekend food bags every other week. JC-FFF program coordinator, Breean Waller, said “Due to transit of the bags from the packing facility to the kids, regular loaves of bread just don’t make the cut, but bagels, english muffins and tortillas do!”
Bread is more than just a staple food; it’s a building block for a balanced diet. For growing children, particularly those in need, a slice of bread can make a significant difference in their nutritional intake. Here’s why:
Energy Source: Bread provides carbohydrates, which are essential for energy. Children need this energy to concentrate in school, play actively, and grow healthily.
Nutrient-Rich: Many bread products, especially whole-grain varieties, contain essential nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals crucial for growth and development.
Versatility: Whether it’s a sandwich, toast with a spread, or a side to a nutritious meal, bread offers versatility in meal preparation, ensuring kids receive a well-rounded diet.
None of this would be possible without the generous donations from our friends at the Powder River Energy Foundation and Basin Electric Company. Their commitment to fostering healthier, more resilient communities has been instrumental in the success of the Bread Project which directly contributes to improving the quality of life for Johnson County children. Their generosity transcends mere donations; it’s a testament to their belief in a brighter future for every child in our community.
